Caprese Salad With Pepitas and Salsa

This isn't a recipe per se. Think of this more as guidance for making a new version of a traditional caprese salad. Tajin, hot sauce, tropical salsa, and hot sauce add zip, zing, and zowie to this classic!

Turn Up The Heat On The Caprese

Ingredients

  • Heirloom tomatoes, sliced in ¼" slices

  • Cherry tomatoes, sliced in half

  • 2 Tablespoons salted and roasted pepitas

  • Tajin

  • Your favorite hot sauce (we used Cholula)

  • Pineapple salsa (we like this recipe)

  • Sliced fresh mozzarella cheese

  • Cilantro, minced

Directions


  1. Alternate laying down slices of fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes on a plate of platter

  2. Scatter halved cherry tomatoes on top of the slices

  3. Season tomatoes and cheese with salt, pepper, and Tajin

  4. Sprinkle salsa, cilantro, and pepitas on top of the cheese and tomato salad

  5. Add hot sauce to taste
